Securing evidence at a crime scene is vital for law enforcement agencies in order to make a case for prosecuting offenders. This is equally true at sea. However, the task is even more arduous on a vessel than on land and therefore requires specific skills and experience.
As part of Denmark’s Maritime Security Programme in the Gulf of Guinea the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) recently held a three-day simulated trial of a maritime piracy case in Ghana. This programme targeted first responders at sea to preserve the crime scene in order to secure evidence.
